Panasonic Picks IBM LotusLive: Biggest Cloud Computing Deal Ever.
Until recently, the City of Los Angeles was one of the biggest single customers of a cloud computing service - Google Apps. LA moved 30,000 employees into the cloud and saved $5.5 million. Panasonic's move from Microsoft Exchange to IBM's LotusLive cloud services will be ten times as big.
To begin with, it will roll-out LotusLive services for 100,000 employees. But in a few years, the company will use the service for about 300,000 employees, partners and suppliers. Sean Poulley, IBM's vice president of online collaboration, told TheStreet. "Panasonic selected LotusLive to help globally integrate its entire business."
"Clearly the [email] collaboration space is one of the leading insertion points for cloud computing and cloud technology," Poulley told TheStreet. "[But] we're confident in our leadership position in the collaboration space."
More and more organizations, government agencies, and schools are switching to the cloud. Unlimited storage, virtually infinite computing power, increased collaboration, on-demand scalability, and drastic cost savings are the main drivers behind this movement.
