Greg Arnette @ EduComm 2009's Cloud Panel: Future of Cloud Computing

Here is a video of Sonian's founder and CTO, Greg Arnette, speaking at EduComm 2009 as part of the Cloud Panel.  In this clip Greg discusses the Future of Cloud Computing.

"Some of your services are going to stay on-premises behind the firewall, and some of your services can live comfortably in the cloud - managed in secure data silos  that are encrypted with your own encryption key so no one has access to your data.  And you can really think of the cloud as a virtual extension of your own IT department.  You really see the advent of infrastructure as a service, platform as a service, really a sort of virtual hardware on-demand that you can tap into as well for other types of IT problems that you have.  Today Amazon provides a very robust set of building blocks in the form of on-demand compute, for both Linux and Windows operating systems, three different types of storage... as well as a database system that allows you to do very robust database analysis without the constraints... The way we see the cloud evolving in the future is the concept of Cloud Bursting... the ability to do things on-demand in the cloud that doesn't require you to have extra hardware on the premise that you have paid for, and it is sitting around zapping your IT budget."
